The Top 12 Cydia Tips and Tricks that you should know

Now that you have jailbroken your iOS 8.3 device, you will be using Cydia frequently to install new packages. Apart from purchasing and installing jailbreak tweaks, Cydia offers a handful of other functionality as well which might go unnoticed. So we have prepared a list of useful tips and tricks that will improve your experience using Cydia.
If you’re new to the jailbreaking world, this is a good time to find out new information about Cydia. Even if you’re a long time jailbreak user, you might still find a few tips or functionality that you never explored before.

1. Refresh Cydia for new or upgradeable packages
When you launch Cydia, it will be refreshed automatically to load new packages and updates. However, if something goes wrong, you can still refresh Cydia manually.
To do so, head to the Changes tab and tap on Refresh. A loading badge will be displayed on the Source tab indicating that Cydia is refreshing.
  • Open the Changes tab.
  • Tap on Refresh.
  • A loading badge will be displayed on the Source tab indicating that Cydia is refreshing.
2. View all your purchased tweaks
If you’re a long time jailbreak user, you’ll probably have purchases a lot of tweaks which you’ve forgotten about. Fortunately, Cydia lets you keep track of all the tweaks which you’ve purchased though the Manage Account section.
 
  • Launch Cydia.
  • Tap on the Manage Account option highlighted in green.
  • You will be prompted to sign in with Google or connect your Facebook account


  • Once you’re logged in, tap on Installable Purchases option to view a complete list of all the tweaks purchased till date
3. View your Cydia ID
Sometimes, developers are generous enough to gift their tweaks to users. In such a case, they will need your Cydia ID in order to be able to gift it to you. Every user has a separate Cydia ID and you can find yours in the Manage Account section.


  • Launch Cydia.
  • Go to Manage Account.
  • Login with either Google or Facebook.
  • Your Cydia ID will be displayed below the Installable Purchases option labelled as ‘Cydia Account 
4. Hide or unhide sections
Are you tired of scrolling through all those new themes and widgets that have been recently released? Fortunately, Cydia allows you to choose the type of packages you’d like to hide. All you have to do is to disable the sections you’re not interested in and Cydia will handle the rest.

  • Switch to the Sources tab and tap on All Sources.
  • Tap on the Edit button located in the top right corner.

  • A list of all the available sections along with toggles will be shown. To disable a specific section you’re not interested in, simply tap on the toggle to turn it off.
  • Cydia now hides the packages which belong to the disabled section.
5. Add or remove sources
Apart from the default repositories that Cydia comes with, you can add other repos as well which might feature tweak and packages that are not available on one of the default sources.


Here’s what you have to do to add a new source to Cydia:
  • Go to Sources.
  • Tap on Edit -> Add.
  • Type in the URL of the new source you’d like to add and tap Add Source. Cydia will now start to fetch all the packages from the new repository.
If you want to remove a source, simply swipe it to the left and tap Delete.

6. Track Package Changes
The Changes tab in Cydia shows all the newly released packages along with the installed ones which have an update pending. However, you can also track updates for packages that haven’t been installed on your device. This can quite useful if you want to know when one of your favorite packages has been updated for say iOS 8.3.


To keep track of the changes made to a package, do the following:
  • Search and open the package in Cydia.
  • Tap on the Change Package Settings option.
  • Enable Show All Changes.
7. Ignore Upgrades:
If you’re happy with an installed package and are not interested in installing a new update, then you have the option to ignore upgrades in Cydia. Here’s how you do it:
  • Go to the installed package in Cydia.
  • Tap on the Change Package Settings option.
  • Then tap on Ignore Upgrades toggle.
8. Queue package installation, update or removal
If you have a lot of tweaks installed on your iPhone, it can be a hectic task to remove them one by one. Cydia makes this task a whole lot easier by allowing you to queue the tweaks which you’d like to install, update or remove.
  • Open a package in Cydia.
  • Choose to install or remove it.

  • Now tap the Continue Queuing option instead of Confirm.
  • The package will now be added to the queue list. Once you’re done queueing all the packages, go to the Installed tab, tap on Queue in the top right corner and tap Confirm.
 9. Recently installed tweaks

To find out the tweaks that have been installed recently on your device:
  • Go to the Installed tab in Cydia.
  • Tap on the Recent button.
  • You will now view a list of all the tweaks installed on your device in chronological order.
10. More package sources
Other than the default Cydia repositories, you can add additional new sources as well. Cydia provides a list of the recommended package sources which you can add. To view it:
  • Launch Cydia.
  • Tap on More Package Sources.
  • Choose a source which you’d like to add.
  • Tap Install.
Additionally, if you have removed a default repository by mistake, you can add it back from here.

11. View packages of a specific source
While the Changes tab fetches and displays packages from all the repositories you’ve added, you can also view packages that are available on a specific source.
  • Go to the Sources tab.
  • Tap on a source you’d like to view.
  • A list of all the packages offered by the source will be displayed.
12. Disable Cydia Substrate to fix reboot loop
There are times when you install a jailbreak tweak that causes your device to go into a continuous bootloop or creates major issues preventing you from uninstalling the tweak. Fortunately enough, there is a way that you can disable Cydia Substrate and remove the tweak without needing to restore your device.
  • While your device is booting up, hold down the Volume up button.
  • All the tweaks that depend on Cydia Substrate will now be disabled once your device boots up.
  • Now go to Cydia and remove the tweak which is creating the issue.
To enable Cydia Substrate again, simply reboot your device but this time without holding any buttons.
